George Dafermos joins the Heteropolitics research team

Our new postdoc researcher is Dr. George Dafermos, who will be looking at the potentialities opened up by the digital commons for social and political transformation.

For those who don’t know him, George has been involved in the digital commons for nearly 20 years: he is a research associate of the P2P Foundation, a member of the Commons | Lab co-op (a small open source technology co-op in Heraklion-Crete, Greece) and a member of the organization team of the Festival of the Commons (aka CommonsFest) in Heraklion-Crete. In the recent past, he was also the coordinator of the research of the FLOK Society Project in Ecuador in the areas of biodiversity, open-sustainable agriculture, open design commons, distributed manufacturing and distributed energy.

La dimensión barrio y la crianza. Tensiones y invenciones entre común, público y privado.

Hace falta un pueblo para criar. Pero qué coño es un pueblo, en nuestros mundos individualizados, dispersos y urbanizados? En la última década han (re-)surgido muchos experimentos y revindicaciones para responder a esa pregunta. Desde la península iberica y sus nuevos feminismos se han lanzando muchas madres y aliadas a la busqueda de formas de tribú, y de infraestructuras comunes de crianza, más allá de los modelos privatizadores y heteropatriarcales. Planteamos un encuentro para formular, escuchar y pensar juntas nuestras necesidades de una crianza más compartida, mirando hacia espacios comúnes y prácticas no exclusivas para cuidar a pequeñxs. Queremos debatir las tensiones y invenciones que se dan entre lo público, lo privado y lo común en la crianza. Os esperamos a todas, con o sin criaturas.

En este encuentro contamos con un espacio infantil con acompañante.

Heteropolitics panel @ EASA 2018

Aimilia Voulvouli and Alexandros Kioupkiolis from the Heteropolitics team, along with Maribel Casas-Cortes, will host this panel on alternative politics, ethnographies and the commons, fleshing out ideas we have been discussing and developing both theoretically and in field research on how ethnographies of social mobilizations, grassroots initiatives and new civic practices can help us to re-imagine and remake radical democratic politics in our times.

1st report on Heteropolitics’ field research in Bologna

This is a brief report on the fieldwork in Bologna, Italy, as conducted by the PI: Alter-politics and commons in Bologna 4 -10 June 2018

We post it in a draft form, because it conveys a concise and illustrative idea of our approach, containing some preliminary conclusions of Heteropolitical research and some interesting points about the commons and the political in the contemporary Italian context.
